Back in May 2014 a rather intriguing e-mail arrived in our inbox, the first line read “we are planning to organise a Derby Book Festival in June 2015”. It was certainly an opening line that caught our attention, and after meeting Sian and Jenny, it was clear that they had the enthusiasm and desire to actually make it happen.

The cultural and educational organisations in the city; QUAD, Déda, Derby Museums, Derby College and the University of Derby had all shown their support to bring the festival to life. The decision to get involved in helping bring another great festival to the city, complimenting Derby Festé and Format, was in truth, an easy one.

Over the last six months we’ve been working closely with the Derby Book Festival team to developing a versatile icon and type style that pulls the festival identity together, along with a comprehensive programme and five unique illustrations for winners of the Derby Book Festival Flash Fiction competition.

Derby Book Festival Programme

“Ever since a rather intriguing e-mail arrived in my inbox back in June 2014 stating “we are planning to organise a Derby Book Festival in June 2015” we’ve been keen to help Jenny and Sian make this happen. Being in the creative industries we are keen to help Derby develop its cultural offering, and the Book Festival is a great opportunity to do just that.”

“One thing is certain, everything you have done is spot on, highly professional and makes Derby Book Festival look amazing!”

Sian Hoyle – Derby Book Festival

“Working closely with the folks at the Derby Book Festival  – we have created a versatile brand that ties all aspects of the festival together, over all forms of media. It was great to see the programme in use by people of the festival at its launch. Nothing beats the feeling that you get as a designer, knowing that what we’ve created is making it easier for people to understand and get around the festival.”
